Your health is your responsibility. We all know this. However, it can be so hard to get the motivation to go to the gym or do that aerobics routine at home. For those of us who have this challenge, there are some simple solutions that can help us to get some exercise into our daily routines.
Park the Car and Walk
There are some days that we have important shopping trips to make. Instead of driving your car to each location, why not park it and walk from one place to another? For instance, there are days when I have to pay bills and deal with bank transactions. The bank and bill payment locations are in the same general vicinity. So, I will park the car in a parking lot further up the road and walk to each of the places. When I’m done I’ll walk back to the car. Those few minutes of exercise are worth something especially if you aren’t exercising regularly.
Do Yard Work
One of the best ways to get exercise into your weekly routine is to discipline yourself to do house chores. Cleaning the house, mowing the lawn, and weeding your garden offer good forms of stretching and cardio exercise. It;s something that has to be done anyways. So, just make it a regular part of your life.
Use the Steps instead of the Elevator
If you work in a building that gives you the option of taking either the steps or the elevator to work, choose to take the steps. When you choose that option, walk briskly up the steps instead of walking casually. This is a good form of exercise at the beginning and ending of each day.
Take an Evening Walk
Evening walks with your family are great bonding activities. It doesn’t matter whether you are single or are married with children, you can make evening walks a part of your family’s daily routine. They don’t have to be long, but doing them consistently over a period of time will help to give you the workout you need
Do Stomach Crunches While Standing in Line
One of my friends once told me about this trick years ago. He said that he would work on his abs by simply expanding and contracting them while standing in line or walking on the road. These muscle contractions help to tone your abs if they are done consistently. They also work well when you drink a lot of water and eat healthily.
These simple changes in lifestyle habits aren’t guaranteed to help you lose weight or make you fitter. They are a start to helping you get into the habit of treating your body well. Will you take on the challenge today?
